1:34:13 Yeah Elder Scrolls Goblins look like green Baboons. (Outside of ESO where they look like generic other fantasy goblins.)

Consider watching/showing Strat Edgy’s “How to Skyrim.” He likes to talk about his alternative mechanics ideas, which seems like something you could appreciate/respond to.

whatever

Argument: Skyrim should do away with the % easier/stronger/less Magicka type perks and reduce the trees to just the perks that change the way the skill works like marksman giving you eagle eye and slow time or restoration making wards absorb Magicka. Since the reviewers stopped playing around level 40 it would make their characters feel complete with all the skills and perks they want.

im one of those that didnt innately realize there was a choice what door to choose in the skyrim intro.
if there wasnt a quest pop-up saying Follow imperial (complete) & Follow stormcloak (failed) i would have never known.

Hey Pat, will you cover LazerzZ video "Why Skyrim Will Never Die"? Its another 10 years later retrospective. Its a more narrative look back rather than analysis, but it could be worth watching.

People in the chat don't get that even though the majority wanted to stomp out the minority religion wise, it was still being practiced underground. Sure, back in the day stuff like Zoroastrianism on the middle eastern side (since they're talking about islam) and stuff like anti-church waldensians or hussites were being publically stomped out, but that doesn't mean that everyone stopped believeing in them. This isn't eu4 or crusader kings, just because some lines are drawn on the game map saying that this province worships Zoroaster or Germano-Nordic Paganism doesn't mean that if there AREN'T lines on the map, the religion doesn't exist. It exists, it's been documented, there are books on norse and zoroastrian mythology, and the reason for resurgence in old religions is because internet made them more accesible. They DIDN'T die during medieval/renaissance ages. they lived on, either in secluded societies, or inside books.

I get the feeling that the community expect a bad video and their interpretation of what is said is always way more negative than it actually is. Like when I say skyrim intro feels drawn out and chat would response like that "What a morooon and dumbass, 5 minutes aren't that looong!1" before I even can make my point why I think that way..

Not quite sure how you hanlde that, Pat, but I think seeing what other people say requires an open mind. Anyways .. I just shouldn't read the chat..

Half lifes intro aged poorly. Back then when it was released it had a WOW-effect since its intro was kinda a showcase of the engine (and of course it only works once)

I think you have to be very careful about anything related to "selling the fantasy".

Arrows don't explode an enemy's head. I don't consider it part of the "ultimate archer fantasy" because it's not how I imagine it to work to begin with (could be cool with exploding bolts though). It's also not something that'd make me feel good about myself, as it doesn't really reflect a particular skill. At best, it might reflect how massive my arms are or how well crafted my bow is, but it wouldn't make me feel like an archer. Same thing goes with dismemberment. Sure, it feels strong, but it doesn't necessarily feel "skilled warrior". To me, that would go to a warrior able to take on 3 enemies at once without even being damaged himself. I'd even go as far as saying stuff like dismemberment could ruin some fantasies, as not everyone wants to play a brutal, savage warrior. I guess I prefer Lethality to Brutality myself.

I'm not saying this because I think I'm right and you're wrong, but rather because everyone is going to have different fantasies, which is probably why Bethesda's been very conservative on that front. Honestly, I don't even like the decapitation killmove. It looks cool, but I feel like it sells a very different vibe than the other killmoves (I mean, was the 360 spin really necessary?).

That said, If they loosened the perk system a bit or made it similar to Fallout 4's somehow, I could see perks allowing such brutal results to be rather inoffensive since you could safely ignored them, even if I consider TES games to be a bad fit for it. I just don't get the grim, dark, brutal world identity from TES as I do from something like The Witcher.

I also wonder if this has to do with the whole "Making the Dark Brotherhood members more evil than the player" angle. Sure, the Fallout protags go around blowing kneecaps, but 70% of the time they're facing mutants and raiders who decorate their homes with human limbs. A single super Mutant "dungeon" might have more gory elements than the entirety of Skyrim combined, and that's not because Skyrim isn't gory. It simply doesn't revel in it to the level Fallout does.

Just my two cents.

The reason his Orc avatar keeps getting confused for a Goblin is that he chose a pale, pastel green over a dark full-fleshed green. Lots of media have conditioned people to think that way.

I agree and I thought the same: if MrCaption can't take the heat (criticsm, hate, trolls etc.) then he shouldn't be a youtuber. So I thought this was the right deceision.
Then he came back. Then he disappered again. Then he came back with a new channel .. It's probably gone again.
Anyways. Something that one can already see in his skyrim/fallout critique just got worse with his newer videos: can't seperate subjective from objective (For example: I dont like this therefore it is bad). Annoying really.
It's sadden me because MrCaptions was one of the first guy who would made longform critiques of game. A pioneer of some sort. just wish things would have ended in a better way

I hope he's doing well anyways.

I disagree in your view of "people that play mediocre games eventually grow up and start playing better games", it's totally delusional, you think people that only played skyrim casually ended up playing daggerfall with time? You really think? They don't, and have no interest of playing that. Most people that consume any form of entertainment casually don't end up consuming it critically, or do you also think that people that read twilight and The Hunger Games ended up reading Moby dick? Again, you are deluded.
This is literally the allegory of the cave by Plato, ancient philosophers discussed this millennia ago, how skyrim fans will never learn that what they are playing is bad because it's the only thing they have played, why even play anything else? Skyrim is pretty much infinite, and if you don't agree, then why people keep buying it? Ask Todd if he thinks Skyrim is infinite or not.
Call me blackpilled, but bethesda hasn’t learn anything from anything, TES 6 will be the direct continuation of Skyrim and pray that they didn’t learn from Fallout 76 as you say they did, because would be a disaster, not for the company tho, for the fans, they can ruin everything and people will buy it as ever before, because just as Beth, skyrim players don't learn neither.

"Too much jargon" is a weird-ass criticism. Like, ever read sci-fi novels? I've been listening to Hyperion and nothing gets explained. You have to pick up everything from context that can be spread out over hundreds of pages… but mentioning names – not even concepts, just names – is apparently too much for some people.

I could be wrong, but I believe enemies fleeing from the PC is influenced by NPC confidence. Like most mechanics in BGS games, the conditions for AI actor values is never explained. Skyrim has a hidden threat ratio that determines whether or not an NPC will flee or fight.
If the actors threat ratio drops below their confidence rating, the actor will flee. ( ThreatRatio<1)
There is some caveats, however.
When combat is initiated each actor will be given a random confidence modifier. This is set with a simple +/- operator to : fCombatConfidenceModifierMin
fCombatConfidenceModifierMax

If I'm not mistaken, Bethesda modified threat level calculations from LE to SE. So I wouldn't be surprised if they did it again with AE.

I'm sad I missed this stream but at least I have a lot of content to catch up on.
I think with the old Nord gods pretty much all of them see representation in the imperial cult just with a much less nordic flavour as you were saying with Kyne/Kynereth but also like Tsun/Zendar and Stehn/Stendarr. To highlight how recent the transition to the imperial cult I think it would have been nice to see more references to these older Nordic iterations especially within the relevant temples. The only God that doesn't get this treatment expressly I think is Shor but he's still much more present in Nordic worship in the game especially with Sovngarde specifically.
With the nords being up in arms about the exclusion of Talos so soon after the transition to the imperial cult – my cope for it was since how prevalent hero worship is within Skyrim (like how Ysgrammor and other mortal heroes are such figures of pride) that the exclusion of Talos is almost a direct spit in the face of nordic culture specifically. The exclusion of Talos is basically a declaration of the Thalmor/Aldmeri Dominion that the whole Sovngarde dynamic of do great deeds in life, be celebrated in death is invalid. But that's probably me reading way too much into it

On the topic of the nine divines and the old gods of skyrim, yeah it is god dam strange to see the entire old ways go poof in "an instant".
There is always resistance to change, it took hundreds of years for Christianity to take over in Scandinavia, it went slowly from south up to north along trade ways and trade paths.

The further away from main trade paths you went the longer it took for them to convert.
The way Christianity went about to convert the local population, was by incorporate already existing customs and tradition, giving them a old jesus paint job and calling it a day, look up "midsommar stång" and you will see a very old norse tradition/festival icon for fertility that was given the old jesus paint job. (and i have a sneaky suspicion that many of you never celebrated that holy day, or knew of its history. and yes it is a big CB penetrating the earth, cue all jokes)

And for all you lovely chaps screaming "Islam did it" with killing off other religions, a) they imposed taxes on there concurred subjects that did not convert b) modern day Spain was under a very long time under Islamic control by the ottoman empire, and once the ottoman empire withdraw from the region, the Spanish inquisition emerged.

Skyrim, and her culture was a massive miss on the dev team for going creative with it, and i suspect it was done so to not alienate there oblivion fan base such as myself.
Something that now once the dust has settled and the awe from its release is gone, I sorely misses the uniqueness that it could have.

Thank you for reading, and have a good day.

32:20 Yeah, i agree, and maybe the worse of it all is that skyrim becomes a less intersting place without any context or mentions of the original nord phanteon. Some will say the name shor with no context, there's Just 2 npcs that SAY the name Kyne in game (the old man near Ivarsteed and the nord bro fighting a dummer necromancer in his family cript), and the skall talk about herma mora and that is it. The "Halls of History" in the barrows have the old pantheon with the animal símbols and that's it.
