I'm really impressed with Radeon chill! That is such AMAZING software. Can't wait to use it on Navi.

thanks to you I undervolted my 570 from March 2019 to 1040 mwahahahahha, correction 970mV is max

thanks for this video , love the chill info and undervolting infos

I know it is an old video, but as the owner of an RX580 this is awesome! I was able to undervolt my card to 1065 and it is incredible, it no longer causes the cooling fan in UPS to fire up like a jet engine when the ard is under full load! Thanks again for a well thought out, perfectly explained video.

Came back to watch this and the 480 tinkering video after purchasing a 580 recently. Was vaguely aware about the whole undervolting thing, but this was a nice little guide on the gubbins of wattman and the workings of their chill system. I know you aren't for reviewing cards anymore, but it may be a nice idea to get future cards and do these little tutorials and demos showcasing newer technologies for the masses that are unlikely to know and understand what they are and how they work. Top banana, as always. Keep it up.

Found my 580 card needs 1110 mv for 1395 mhz, and the card is supposed to overclock to 1435, but clearly not without blowing power consumption of. Guess I didn't win the silicon lottery on a card that MSRP's at about $300, luckily I only paid $200 on Black Friday. I haven't found overclocking to gain much anyway vs the power used as you mentioned.

Applied the same 1395 / 1040mv to my Sapphire Rx 580 Nitro+ 4GB and it's perfectly stable. Thank you for this very informative video

I would like to see a review (by you) of rx590, if possible, and if it deserves reviewing/commenting despite the fact, it is the 3rd life of the polar(is) cat. I'm appreciating your reviews and commenting in the field. Thank you in advance!

I remember finding your channel through this video. I'm so glad I subbed last year.

Would have liked to see these same benches on a core i7…. in my experience there can be a difference. Especially if AMD GPUs perform better with a Ryzen CPU.

Love that OC/undervolting with chill.

Chill is so underrated, less heat, less noise…. I used the Hialgo Chill (before AMD bought them) in my Nvidia card some time ago.

Amd has a serious gap in card prices here in jan 2018 on newegg.ca.
RX560 cards range from 142 to 225 cdn and 570 cards start at 460 cdn dollars. WHY THE HELL DONT THEY HAVE A 560 OC
OR cut down budget version of 570 to fill that gap?

Awesome! got my subscription

Thanks buddy – I've cut my power usage by ~20w at full load with zero impact on performance.  My Sapphire pulse runs at ~115w now at 1366mhz (stock clock). Haven't played with clock speeds yet – it's fast enough for the moment.

Trả lời

Works great on Wolfenstein 2 (Vulkan). And by great I mean amazing – silent, smooth and tear-free.

how to display gpu wattage ?, i don't find it in afterburner

Trả lời

Why I can't see any chill option like this one? Just a simple switch in the global settings, but underneath the wattaman temperature menu there is NOTHING, cannot find any settings global or gaming profile about chill -.-

Trả lời

Emad Uddeen Khlif

I can't find an option to show the wattage in the on screen display. Anyone know how to do this?

Trả lời

yheee

Woah, AMD gives you so much control over your GPU!

Trả lời

I realize that hoping the 580's drop down to launch price is an impossible dream, but what do you think about grabbing a second 580 for around 300 dollars for crossfire, since Vega is also an impossible dream?

Trả lời

ketxxx1

These results are retarded. Comparing DX11 for nvidia and DX12 for AMD is all kinds of backwards.

Just found this video. I had no idea what Chill did before, but it looks pretty slick! I play a lot of older games and strategy games that don't need or benefit from the full power of my 480. So I'll definitely need to try out Chill when I'm playing those!

EDIT: LOL. And then it turns out that only some games actually support it, and most of those are newer ones that I'm generally not hitting more than 60 fps on anyway. Still, the undervolting discussion in this video was very helpful.

Great video!
I was able to get it to 1020mv and get around a 120W power draw on average. Not only that but temperatures dropped by about 6 C and fan speeds dropped by 9% on a Strix 580. Pretty sure if I'd set the temperature at which fans start up I could even get them not to spin at all.
Tested it with a 5 hour gaming session of the Witcher 3! Great game!

Gpu: MSI RX 580 Gaming X 8Gb vs MSI RX 580 GAMING X PLUS 8GB ITS THE SAME HASH??

I say give us money and we will upgrade. Most of that 80% is gamers with no job (read in school) or as in my place and many others we cant afford to upgrade our pc every freaking year or even 2 years.
Man i still run amd FX6100 and sapphire radeon r9 280x 3gb dual-x oc for god sake.

Trả lời

sudd

techpowerup have a review of sapphire 580 pulling 214watts in gaming and the 570 at 169watts, is there so big difference in the 580's or is the difference in how you get your numbers?
also 60hz is not "gaming", 144hz is, 60 hz is just web browsing and play games, not meant for gaming.

Redeon chill is exclusively for AMD cards or MSI and such softwares can do the same for green team?

Trả lời

Does anyone know, whether i should buy the Sapphire Nitro + RX 580 4gb , 570 8gb or Pulse RX 580 8gb? My CPU will be the Ryzen 1500x. I also wanted to know, if 500w PSU ist enough for this system.

Trả lời

W4NN1

The biggest issue I have with the RX580 is that it costs >300€. The RX 480 8GB was just 200€ at the end of its lifecycle. Hard to recommend a RX580 with this in mind.

I have a question what if the freesync monitor has 60hz max like Samsung CF390 curve should i set my chill to 60fps min to 60fps max?

Trả lời

I am still using my 7970 and I don't see a significant upgrade under 500€

I've been meaning to try Chill since I got my RX 480 but never really bothered. Whilst playing Overwatch my GPU is in the low 60s getting 90-120 FPS at 1440p at near-max settings. I wonder how much cooler it'd be with Chill. However, I'd need to see if I notice the FPS ramp-up when going from stationary to fast movement because I'm really sensitive to frame-rate hiccups (e.g. even at 144 Hz I notice judder and tearing immediately).

Trả lời

nerd Mike

Superb the chill function, expecially during hot summer days while playing 😀

Trả lời

You've got a lucky sample.

I can't go below 1090 to keep 1365 on my 580 Aorus. And no way in hell I can keep 890 mV for 1265, lowest I can go is around 965.

Did you try the top overclocking tho? What was the asic?

Trả lời

After watching this video and had to find a way of undervolting my GTX1080..managed to shave off a fair bit of power usage. Undervolting rocks, peak 55-60% of TDP. Temps dropped 5C

Trả lời

JonatDonat

thanks very much. I managed to underclock my 570 to 1040mV at 1300MHz, dropping its temperatures and increasing fps. really happy with the results and thanks to you!

Oh god.. i didn't have a normal gaming pc for over 7 years when i started to beg my parents when i had really $hitty pc wich was weak and bad and cheap wich i had dying on me 3 month ago it's gonna be good seeing a a dedicated GPU inside the pc ☺ im so glad it died

Hi, thank you for great review. Can I ask what program are you using for showing gpu consumption, frequency etc on your screen?

what did you used to monitor power(watts) usage, is that msi afterburner? thanks 🙂

Holy Grail From Hell

If the cards can't maintain 60fps, then it's not time for an upgrade. 500 million sheep ready for slaughter, AMD's blood capsules filled red, Nvidia's green with cash — same shit, different color. Thanks but no thanks.

Your undervolt/underclock to 1265Mhz with 890mV was actually running at 950mV (the memory voltage setting). The highest power state for polaris won't run at a voltage lower than the memory voltage set in WattMan. It sounds stupid but I tested it and it is true.
