I love how the whole family came in different skin colors. I’m Colombian and I am pale as hell. Some people will discredit me saying I’m not as Hispanic because of my skin tone when really we come in all types of skin tones.

Honestly it felt like a Disney cash grab after Coco, the story was weak and not fully develop as a Latino myself it just felt cheap and generic nothing really stood out in the end. I was so disappointed after all the positive reviews. I was expecting to we wowed and this didn’t deliver. The songs were cheap not as good as coco or frozen were the songs have a message.

As a Colombian who couldn't spend Thanksgiving with my family……..IT WAS VERY EMOTIONAL😭

Nothing against Colombians, but this movie was an attempt to make "Coco 2" 😏😏🙄 latinos, magic, family, love! Coco from Mexico is waaaaaay better! I liked Encanto! But as i said, it was like an attempt to copy Coco!

As a Colombian myself the migration scene broke my heart, it's something we've had to witness and endure for such a long time and seeing it acknowledged and represented for the whole world to see in such a hopeful and magical way was beautiful. There was not a dry eye in the theater during that scene.

I feel a little underwhelmed with the movie. I mean I loved it but I felt like I was promised a big adventure and it was all pretty self contained. I did love the characters and most of the songs ! Also i never saw where the film was heading but mainly because it wasn’t really going anywhere. In that sense I was like oh what’s gonna happen next and then by the end credits I was like oh so not much ig. Still a fun time and I did tear up.

I wasn't going to watch this but now I'm exited to see it

I think the amazing part of this movie is that for us Colombians the immigration aspect as you call has such a deeper more nuance meaning because of the terrible armed conflict that the country has endured for years and that has forced a lot of people from the country side out of their homes. But it perfectly fits into any immigration story, it’s universal. It was beautiful.

You said it… This movie is BRILLIANT! 🔥 Is the deepest Disney movie, best in AT LEAST a decade. 💎

Also grace im not sure if your familiar with it but the house concept is very Steven universe. The gems in the show used their gems to open doors to the temple which opened a room or world made for them.

The should've called this movie Espanto instead of Encanto, cuz it's going to scare everyone away with its Wokeness.

3:44 Keep in mind Grace that it might not give it to that film and it could end up go either Mitchells Vs the Machines or Luca despite the latter being just simple but it is from Pixar after all. Or Flee if the Oscars are bold enough to do so.

I was gonna give this movie a try until I heard you say John Leguizamo. I am hispanic and his stock went down hill with the hispanic community years ago. Passing on this one. 👍🏻

Saw this earlier today and loved it, there were people hugging each other at the end which was really beautiful.

As a venezuelan, this movie made me tear up and sob all the way through, I felt so represented and I couldnt believe a character was having an arepa, the inmigration message was beautifully done

Trả lời

The "immigration" scene is actually in fact related internal conflic and has nothing to do with the US. These scenes depic the internal colombian war from 1948 to 1958 called "la violencia" in where millions were displaced for political violence between the liberals and conservatives.

I really love this movie, all the scene are so colourful and very well animated, and Bruno it's so a interesting character, I cant say enough good things about this movie

you're so absurd.both you and disney ought to stop trying to bridge the gap between rich complex cultures and the roles people in those cultures step into so bravely…one doesn't have power so she useless or less interesting? You're ridiculous!

Mirabel was the glue to the metaphorical cracks in the family

Trả lời

I think you're missing a lot of context ( Which I understand) because this movie talks about displaced people trying to rebuild and heal wounds from decades of war, centering the nuclear family and community as the solution, Is hard to put all this very complicated topics on a Disney movie, but I do love your take on the film 📽️📽️📽️

8:04 I respect your opinion, but it has been confirmed that Camilo is masculine. I'm just speaking my mind when I say this, (no disrespect) I honestly hope he isn't, because we need more straight male representation in movies.

Grace, the reference in the movie is not about immigration but about forced displacement. A common problem historically in colombia.

I thought this movie stunk…visuals were great but everything else was horrible. No character development, emotion, tension, detectible climax or resolution to the main problem. It was so rushed and they used the songs to explain everything from characters to plot. It was so jumbled and confusing and had no structure to the story or plot and was contradictory. Seems like Disney can't make a good movie anymore without Pixar. Coco was AMAZING. Encanto could have been great but it totally flopped for me.

Maybe one day they will make a movie about Eastern European culture 🙂🤞🏻

I'm Colombian, and this movie felt like a beautiful representation of the diversity or my country. Abuela's story was so touching to me because it's based on real violence a lot of families have experienced here.

as a latino i was here for this movie 🙌🏼 but i was pretty underwhelmed after seeing it. i don’t feel like there was much of a conflict or that the stakes were high enough. i also woulda liked to see maribel go on a journey, but once the house collapsed the issues she was having got patched up pretty quickly after, so it didn’t really make me feel much. it was kinda tho cute i guess.

Great the see the Colombian community get great representation! Although I do prefer Raya and the Last Dragon (sorry just taste 😭), it’s great to see a Latina story be so powerful and especially from disney.

Also the cooking makes sense in the latin community, mother's cooking represents healing not just physically but mentally. I't not about the food, but what it represents.

Compassion. Perfectly summarized.

The migration theme hits very powerful after the massive venezuelan migration here in South America, I guess this is what they’re trying to hint since a lot of Venezuelans do risk their lives trying to find a better place for their love ones. And sadly, there’s tons of anti migration movements over here too, xenophobia has risen up in South America.

Loved your interpretation on why Mirabel didn’t get a door. I sort of like that there’s no clear understanding on it in the film cause it’s an open door for interpretation. No pun intended. Lol

You forgot to elaborate more on the most touching endearing moment of the movie when Abuela tells her side of things.

I hope Netflix's VIVO, Mitchells, and Encanto are all nominated for Best Animated Film Oscar.🏆 Best Song also needs to include Encanto, and VIVO's incredible finale song "Inside Your Heart" 💔😭 by Gloria Estefan!

Spoilers:

What I loved about this movie is 1: There was no twist villain, heck, there was no villain at all!
The main reason the Casita was falling apart was because of family strife.
2: Mirabel doesn’t get a gift, and it stays that way, I thought she was in a Jack Jack Situation where they think she doesn’t have a gift, but gets a power later, but to my surprise, she remains normal, and I love that, it shows you don’t need powers to be special!
